Applying science to improve lives

3M has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and it is a core value of our company. Our consistent industry leadership is evident in the establishment of our ground-breaking Pollution Prevention Pays program in 1975, which continues to thrive, as well as more recent initiatives, including our shift to renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing circular solutions and growing our skills-based volunteering programs. Together with our employees, customers, partners, governments and communities, 3M is committed to a science-based, collaborative approach to solving shared global challenges and improving lives.

At this year’s 3M Open, we will be highlighting sustainable solutions ranging from water filtration, recycled insulation, construction materials, and more.

Nature Valley

Arrow Right Arrow Bottom

Nature Valley is committed to a more recyclable future. Parks, trails, lands and waters are precious to us all and must be preserved for future generations. We're starting by making our Crunchy bar wrappers store drop-off recyclable.

Believe it or not, recycling polyethylene film is more than a sustainable, eco-friendly way to minimize our environmental footprint. That same material can also be turned into some pretty amazing things. Your contributions to store drop-off recycling can be turned into playground sets, decking, fencing, and furniture — all things that can help you make the most of your outdoor spaces.

But that's only our first step toward making all of our packaging fully recyclable by 2025. Visit our See-Saw at Fan Village to learn more.

FULL-CIRCLE Plastic Bag Collection Drive

Bring your plastic bags (think grocery/shopping bags and dry cleaner bags) for a chance to win a set of two Adirondack chairs and a matching side table* – both made from recycled materials. Look for the FULL-CIRCLE Recycling bins at National Sports Center and the Main Entrance - we will have volunteers at each bin helping to collect your plastic bags. Then, scan the QR code to enter the raffle!

TimberTech will transport the bags back to their recycling facility in Ohio, where they will be processed and used to make TimberTech decking. Your contributions support this cycle of circularity.

*We will announce winners on Monday, July 25. Sets will be available for pickup at the 3M Open tournament office.

NatureWorks

Arrow Right Arrow Bottom

NatureWorks is a global biotechnology company using plants to turn greenhouse gases like CO2 into a portfolio of biomaterials we call Ingeo. We partner with companies around the world to transform Ingeo into a wide range of naturally advanced products like compostable coffee capsules, tea bags, and food serviceware as well as diapers, hygiene masks, appliances, and filament for 3D printing. Because Ingeo biomaterial is made from plants, it enables the decoupling of materials from non-renewable resources, and its carbon footprint is 70% smaller than petrochemical-based plastics.

NatureWorks is headquartered in Plymouth, MN and is a proud partner of the 3M Open event, supporting the economic and environmental sustainability of the Twin Cities metro area. As a sustainability sponsor, NatureWorks has partnered with compostable food serviceware suppliers to provide compostable cups and bags made from Ingeo throughout the tournament, assisting the 3M Open in increasing organics recycling. Compostable food serviceware, like cups, help to capture food scraps from events and divert them from landfills, where they emit methane, to compost, where they produce important soil amendments that help grow better food and sequester more carbon in our soils. We are excited about the steps the 3M Open has taken in recent years in waste diversion and reduction, and we look forward to continued partnership building a more sustainable future in golf.
