3M Open, Wings Financial Give $50K to YWCA

Aug 19, 2022

(Apple Valley, Minn.) – Determined to position youth for future success, the 3M Open Golf Tournament and Wings Financial presented YWCA Minneapolis with a combined donation of $50,000. The check presentation also served as a backdrop to financial literacy sessions delivered by Wings to YWCA participants in the Eureka program, a 5-year STEM-based pathway for high school girls.

President and CEO Shelley Carthen Watson of YWCA Minneapolis said, “We are immensely grateful. This philanthropic investment means we can make the Eureka experience accessible to more girls in our community. What these promising scholars accomplish in these years leading up to graduation is astounding. “Eureka opportunities include concurrent high school enrollment in college-level engineering courses and internships.

According to 3M Open Tournament Director Mike Welch, “We feel like we are one of the trailblazers for DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) space on the PGA tour.” An imperative of 3M Open partners, says Welch, is an expressed commitment to support women-focused organizations. “We thought what better organization than YWCA, which empowers women and works to eliminate racism.”

Wings Financial Chief Lending Officer Norm Creveling agrees, saying these partnerships are about shared values, “We pride ourselves as an organization where 60 percent of our employees are women and we had more women promoted last year than men.”

Of note, the partnership tied a portion of proceeds to bogey-free rounds at the 3M Open, with Wings Financial matching 22 successful rounds, $450 each, for a donation totaling $10,000.
