Sustainability Program

The 3M Open is committed to doing our part for the planet, and we believe it’s our responsibility to lead. Protecting our shared environment and conserving natural resources ensures a vibrant golfing future for all to enjoy.

This year, we have teamed up with sustainability-focused vendors and partners to help us advance our initiatives with a focus on waste reduction, reuse, and community.

2025 Sustainability Goals

Vendor & Fan Education

Continue to work with vendors to establish on-site requirements and ensure compliance with sustainability policies, and partner with local organizations to improve fan education and interactions.

Community Connections

Focusing on improving the Tournament’s impact on the local community, economy, and environment.

Maintain 80%+ Waste Diversion

To achieve a 80%+ diversion rate from waste-to-energy (Zero Waste to Landfill) and focus on improving composting and donations, especially concerning Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste.

Composting in Fan Areas

We will continue with both front- and back-of-house composting, reducing waste that is usually destined for the landfill.

Waste Diversion through Donations

Implementing a pre-event vendor survey and fostering vendor/sponsor interaction ahead of the tournament enables us to anticipate the items vendors will bring to the event and organize donation points within the community. We are excited to launch our partnerships with Reuse Minnesota and Hope For the Community in Blaine.

Formalize Processes, Policies and Procedures

Develop and implement comprehensive sustainability strategies, with the aim of securing GEO certification in 2026 and establishing a sustainable operations framework for our future events.

Applying science to improve lives

3M has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and it is a core value of our company. Our consistent industry leadership is evident in the establishment of our ground-breaking Pollution Prevention Pays program in 1975, which continues to thrive, as well as more recent initiatives, including our shift to renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing circular solutions and growing our skills-based volunteering programs. Together with our employees, customers, partners, governments and communities, 3M is committed to a science-based, collaborative approach to solving shared global challenges and improving lives.

At this year’s 3M Open, we will be highlighting sustainable solutions ranging from recycled insulation, construction materials, and more.

Sustainability Partners

Nature Valley

Arrow Right Arrow Bottom

Nature Valley is committed to a more recyclable future. Parks, trails, lands and waters are precious to us all and must be preserved for future generations. We're starting by making our Crunchy bar wrappers store drop-off recyclable.

Believe it or not, recycling polyethylene film is more than a sustainable, eco-friendly way to minimize our environmental footprint. That same material can also be turned into some pretty amazing things. Your contributions to store drop-off recycling can be turned into playground sets, decking, fencing, and furniture — all things that can help you make the most of your outdoor spaces.

But that's only our first step toward making all of our packaging fully recyclable by 2025. Visit our See-Saw at Fan Village to learn more.
